Independent Readers
As we progress through the year, some children in KS2 may reach the stage of becoming independent readers. When this happens, they will no longer bring home a structured reading scheme book but instead can select an age-appropriate book from the school library or reading corner to take home.
If your child reaches this milestone at any point during the year, we will place a note in their reading diary to inform you. Please don't be concerned if your child continues to bring home a reading scheme book; all reading materials are chosen to best support each child’s learning journey.
For children who become independent readers, we will encourage them to ensure their chosen book is suitable by checking that they can read and understand the first page. As always, especially in lower KS2, please continue to listen to your child read at home and sign or leave a note in their reading diary to support their progress.
