Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM)
School meals are FREE to all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
If you do not wish your child to have school meals, there are 2 further options:
- Your child can return home for lunch. In this case, your child may not return to school before 1.00 pm as supervision is provided on the basis of the number of children having a meal on site.
- You may provide your child with a packed lunch. You will need to provide your child with a secure sandwich box, clearly named. For safety reasons, hot drinks, glass containers or cans of fizzy drinks should not be included. Please note we promote healthy eating in school and would ask you to consider packing healthy option food for your child. No food containing nuts should be used in packed lunches or snacks as we have children in school with severe nut allergy.
Income-related Free School Meals
We want to make sure that we are providing your child with the best education and support we can. Healthy school food has obvious health benefits and can help pupils establish healthy habits for life. Healthy school food can also help to improve pupils’ readiness to learn.
Families who receive certain benefits may be eligible for free school meals. Your child is eligible for free school meals if you’re in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- Universal Credit with an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400.
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guarantee element of Pension Credit
- Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
- Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual income of no more than £16,190
Registering for free meals could also raise an extra £1,320 for your child’s primary school, to fund valuable support like extra tuition, additional teaching staff or after school activities.
This additional money is available from central government for every child whose parent is receiving one of the benefits listed above.
You can easily apply online at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals or via a form available from the school office.
Free school milk scheme
Free milk is available for all children aged under five in school, funded by the UK government. In our school, this milk is provided by Cool Milk, the UK’s leading school milk supplier. We will register your child for their free school milk on your behalf by providing Cool Milk with your child’s name and date of birth. This removes the requirement for you to complete a registration process.
Your child will then receive a carton of semi-skimmed milk delivered fresh and chilled to their classroom every day, which provides a host of benefits:
Once your child turns five, you will be offered the opportunity to pay a subsidised rate for your child to continue to receive milk.
If you have any questions about school milk please visit www.coolmilk.com or contact Cool Milk directly on 0800 142 2972.
Snacks
The National Fruit Scheme provides free fruit for children from Reception to Year 2.
Children are encouraged to eat a piece of fruit at snack time. Fruit is provided for for Reception and KS1 pupils. Parents may provide an alternative snack and we ask that this should be a healthy option as we wish to work with parents to encourage all children to eat a healthy balanced diet. Please do not provide crisps or other high sugar/fat content snacks. Please also note we are a Nut Free School.
